My name is Jason McCormick. As an experienced musician, I consider myself somewhat of a violin aficionado. My love for the instrument started when I was just a kid.
When I was just 8 years old living in Wisconsin, my parents got me my first violin. It wasn’t a stunner by any means, but an old used model they picked up at a local music shop. After spending the next few weeks gawking at the antique, dear old Mom and Dad finally signed me up for lessons.
Since then, my love of music has only bloomed. I continued to study the instrument, along with others, well into adulthood. Eventually, I enrolled at Northwestern University to study music education.
During that time, I played in the orchestra and continued to refine my skills and technique. I was able to play a variety of different violins, ranging in price, age, and quality. This experience made me appreciate the instrument and it’s sound even more.
Life After Graduation
Once I received my Bachelor’s degree in music education, I entered the world of teaching. Now in my early 40s, I teach private and group lessons to enthusiastic students in Chicago. I spend my days teaching students as young as five how to play the violin and get to see their faces light up when they learn something new.
I constantly encounter students, parents, and even seasoned musicians that are unsure of what type of instrument to get. There’s a slew of options on the market, but very little information to make the buying process easier. That’s when I decided to create this website.
It’s my belief that everyone is capable of learning the art of music. Music isn’t an impossible skill that comes to only a select few, but something that’s accessible to everyone with a bit of dedication and hard work. Music education never stops, even for those that have been playing for decades.
One of the biggest hurdles I see amongst would-be violinists is an instrument that doesn’t work for their needs. Who wants to practice and get better if the violin you’re trying to finesse sounds awful? Unfortunately, selecting the wrong violin can hinder the learning process before it even begins.
I decided to share my experience and knowledge with anyone that’s looking to invest in a violin. With my help, you can learn all there is to know about the classic instrument and find the perfect match. Discovering a violin that works for your needs will make all the difference in how you learn and play, ultimately setting you up for a lifetime of beautiful music.
